Merry Christmas! (And all the goodies I got!)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! My mom was able to visit and we watched The Nightmare before Christmas together...but she got bored with it and did crossword puzzles in the kitchen. (Hehe) After being woke up very early by the rabbit we opened out gifts and lazed around before heading over to his families house and feasting. I look forward to his grandmothers homemade french onion soup every year. (So tasty!) Here is everything I got:

1. Slytherin Crest Tank top (because Harry Potter!)
2.Books a Million Gift card (from rabbits mother..she also got me a cute skeleton hat and glove set, and a skeleton top.)
 3. Rammstein Made in Germany special edition cd set
4. Tokyomilk Arsenic Gift set (this stuff smells like heaven!)
5. Edward Scissorhands dvd
6. American Horror Story Season 2 dvd

My mother also gave us both money and his grandparents did the same. I am stuffed and I plan on taking a lovely nap. I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday!

December favorites! (And The Temple of Love.)

Oh...it is that time of the year. My birthday is also this month and I have requested an ice cream cake with bats on it. Hehe. I am finally done with my finals and I came to a realization. I have not read a good book in a while and I am always busy with classes or work. So I decided to take this semester off. This will give me time to get more hours and save up for a beach trip and a summer class I need to take. And I do deserve a good break. College is exhausting!

My love gave me a present early since I planned on taking him to get one of his presents. (Imagine trying to wrap a bean bag...ugh!) Speaking of my lovely Rabbit, we have been together for a year and a half! He is the best thing to happen to me! (Prepare for lovey dovey nonsense.) He is my best friend, he always makes me laugh when I need cheering up,he loves me for me,he gets me interested in movies I would never think of watching, and he makes a delicious cucumber salad.

Silly rabbit! And look he plays the drums! *swoon*

Temple of love love love!

So on to my favorites! I have been listening to a lot of Sisters of Mercy lately. (Temple of Love on repeat basically.) And I discovered the magic of Impress press on nails. I only really get the black ones and they last for almost two weeks. This is a miracle because after one day of painting my nails they are chipped as hell. Ain't nobody got time for that. My early gift was a Stanly Kubrick movie set which included The Shining. I have never really seen the movie fully. Only bits and pieces. And recently I have bought lots of books by Poppy Z. Brite. She is such a good writer and very descriptive. I am currently reading Drawing Blood and so far...AMAZING.

Oh and be expecting a Christmas post and a birthday post!

Merry Winter Solstice!

Hatred within the goth community and why I like nu goth fashion.

So Sary Walrus posted this which includes the lovely Kazlovesbats talking about goths attacking other goths within the scene. I do not have this trouble since there are not many goths where I live. But online...well...that is a different story. Since when is it okay to make rules within the goth community? When is it okay for one to determine what "goth is and what it is not". I do know that the Gothic subculture started as an off-shoot of the post-punk genre. But it also evolved with 19th century Gothic literature, campy shows like The Munsters, and even Tim Burton adding to this culture.  In my opinion Goth now is what you make of it. It is not just listening to specific music but it is a way of life. It is finding beauty in the darkness. Every person is different, so what Goth means to me will not be the same for others. There are many new styles of Goth withing the subculture. The newest styles emerging are pastel goth and nu goth. Nu goth being not too far from traditional goths. Think about it...torn tights,BDSM influences, and esoteric symbols. Pastel goth seems to be a mash up of lolita and grunge. Pastel goths incorporate spooky imagery but with lighter colors. Goths have black bats and they have lilac bats. I personally like certain aspects of both of these styles. I do incorporate some things into my wardrobe.

Why? Because my style is constantly evolving. Aesthetically I like the look of ripped knee highs and baggy sweaters. (Robert Smith was the king of baggy sweaters by the way.) I like big round sunglasses and clunky 90's shoes. (I own a pair of Mudd shoes.) I love skeleton hair clips and layering torn fabrics together. As Goths we do evolve. We decide that we are not dressing this way for others but for us. Goths as much as anybody need to accept others for their choices. The popularity of nu-goth has also made it easier for me to get clothing in "normal" stores. (There is a store that has a bat printed onesie for crying out loud!) There is slight controversy (ahem...people bitching...) about "nu-goths are not goth...they do not listen to goth music..they just copy our style!" but hello...there are plenty of goths that do not listen to Sisters of Mercy. There are goths who like mainstream music, industrial music, classical music, and hell my spotify playlist is all over the place. So for the "elite" goths that decide the rules of goth...go fuck yourself. I am no less of a Goth because of my interests.
