Updating my closet! *The Inspired Edition*

So my last post was about how I was a clothing rut blah, blah, etc. So for this post I will have certain elements I desire in my new closet. Oh and pictures..lots of pictures. Here we...go!

:What I want from my closet/clothing:
1.Flexibility: I want skirts I can wear out and about and also is suitable for work
2.Mix and Match: Same concept as number one...I want one pair of pants or a top that can be mixed with multiple pieces and look like a different outfit.
3. Suitable for the current elements...no velvet material in Summer or Spring. *a velvet tank top is just irony. I will sweat to death.*
4. Comfort...not just physical comfort but emotional comfort. Do I feel beautiful and confident in this?

So I hope this helps others get a visual of the look I am aiming for. Lots of knee high socks,Kinderwhore dresses, distressed denim with loads of patches, baggy tops with tights, combat boots, loads of jewelry, ripped fishnets, and layers. So does any of this nonsense make sense? It does in my head..hehe. Oh and I am still goth. I am still Violet. I will always be me.

In a clothing rut. Ugh!

So...I am really getting tired of wearing everything that is in my closet. This is what I usually wear:
-Ripped black jeans with a band shirt
-Some sort of black skirt with tights and a band shirt
-Black dress pants, combat boots, and a dress shirt *To work*

I feel like I wear the same thing over and over again. A while back a few bloggers did posts about a "wardrobe overhaul". Sary Walrus wardrobe overhaul, The everday goth wardrobe overhaul,F yeah lolita wardrobe overhaul. I have currently modified some denim shorts for summer...but honestly I do not like how they look on me. I know what I want my wardrobe to look like...but now it is filled with old pieces that I really dislike wearing. (Example: plaid button up shirts...) So with the inspiration of the lovely Sary Walrus (who was part of the inspiration for me to have a blog...oh and here is her blog. The Walrus Room) I shall do my own wardrobe overhaul! I warn you...I mention pastel goth fashion.

-Patterns and Colors-

I love matching my makeup with certain jewelry I am wearing. Another color that is not shown is blue. I love blue eyeshadow. I also love an all black look with a few pops of color. I am trying to wear dresses and skirts more as well. And god do I love the look of leather. (Not real leather of course!) And anything that looks distressed really catches my eye.

Psychara has really inspired me fashion wise. I love her makeup and layering! As I have mentioned I like a few details of the pastel goth fashion. This does not make me less of a goth. Nor does this turn me into a full fledged pastel goth. Crust punks, death rockers, White Zombie, Taylor Momsen, rosaries, layers, knee highs, stockings, distressed denim, skulls, Doc Martins, head bands, spikes, and the 90s all inspires me. I think it is time to change up my closet to something that I do not get bored with making outfits. I will still be goth...but I feel like I really need to change. Where I can have more pieces that can be mixed and clothing I wear more than once and feel confident wearing. So have you been in a rut before?

Show and tell! (Free edition...with alot of pictures!)

So currently I am addicted to a website called Listia. It is an auction website but instead of paying cash for items you use points. You earn points by listing things for auction, doing surveys, and watching random videos. I spend my real money on shipping material and shipping. I usually buy the shipping envelopes from Dollar Tree. I have never spent over ten bucks shipping something. Lately I have been getting lots of packages in the mail from auctions I have won. It's like Christmas every time I get something in the mail! *And all the items I have gotten were free.* So here is some things I have gotten since I joined Listia.

World Goth Day! (May 22, 2013)

Oh man...is it May 22 already? Time really flies! Today I had to be at work at five a.m....ugh! I got home around twelve and took a well deserved two hour nap. Then I woke up and realized it was goth day! I just got all dolled up and went to the grocery store. It is way too warm to be outside today. If it was cooler I would go to a cemetery and read. Ah well. So today I shall celebrate indoors! Which means listening to Siouxsie and The Banshees, Sisters of Mercy, and The Cure while being in my dark living room drawing. May your day be wicked and spooky! Happy Goth Day everyone!

Recomended reading and music for all types of goths! (Links galore!)

Summer summer summer summer. I love you yet I despise you. But we all need some nice reading for those days where the sun is just unbearable. Also I love to listen to music while drawing or modifying clothing for summer. And my "spring cleaning" which usually only begins in summer when my schedule is not as hectic is a good time to jam out to music.

:Recommended tunes:
Juke Joint Jezebel-KMFDM

Go with the flow-Queens of the stone age

Lucretia, My Reflection-The Sisters of Mercy

Big Time-Peter Gabriel

You're So Vain-Marilyn Manson

And One-Military Fashion Show

Call Me-The 69 eyes

Strangelove-Depeche Mode

:Recommended Reading:

-House of Leaves-Mark Z. Danielewski
I have never read anything like this book. I feel like I am solving a mystery.
-The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo- Stieg Larsson
Amazing series! It is very dry and boring the first few chapters but then it gets so good!
-Cities Of Silence (A guide to Mobile's Cemeteries)-John S. Sledge
I love reading historic things about the state I live in. This books has such inspiring photography as well.
-Interview With the Vampire-Anne Rice
Because vampires duh!
-Carmilla- Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu
This inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula. It was published originally in 1872 and stars a female vampire who does not distinguish between male or female victims. This gives light that women can have as much sexual deviance as men do. Very ahead of its time.

So do you have a summer reading list?

The woes of Summer (for ladies and gents!)

So it is May and Summer is slowly creeping into every ones life. But what is a goth to do in Summer? Preferably what do we wear? Also what are some goth friendly Summer activities? Well I live in Alabama so the hottest day I have handled was 100 degrees F! Here are some friendly tips and suggestions for Summer!

1. Get a good sunscreen for both your body and face. I apply sunscreen every hour due to sweat or water if I am swimming. Nobody wants to have a sunburn. I like to wear sunscreen all year long to keep my skin pale. But I really love sunscreen that has a lovely scent or a scent that is not as noticeable. Here is a link for five sunscreens with the best scents.

2. Goth girls go easy on the makeup. Liquid makeup will melt and make you sweat worse. Yuck! So use a sunscreen especially for your face as a moisturizer, concealer, and foundation powder as a base. Coty airspun powder is a great setting powder. Oh and it can make you look paler too!

3. Here are some outfit suggestions for ladies and gents for the summer. These were designed by me with Polyvore.

4.The following items are must haves to surviving the summer. (Besides sunscreen of course!)
-Dry Shampoo
-Flip flops (Sometimes it gets way too hot to wear boots! So on those days I suggest wearing either sandals or flip flops. You could aslo carry a pair with you just in case.)
-Oil blotter sheets (Your face may get yucky and oily. These are also great for oily hair if you do not like dry shampoo.)
-A nice hat. (Either a fedora of a lovely sun hat can protect from the rays of the sun.)
-Sun glasses (Every body needs at least one pair. I have three because I tend to break mine often.)

5. Do not be afraid to wear something other than black! I love white sundresses and distressed purple shorts. Just because you are not wearing black does not mean you are not goth. I believe the Gothic lifestyle is also inside of you. Nobody wants to be a hot sweaty mess.

6. Try denim instead of heavy black cloth shorts or pants. They do make darker washes of denim!

So what is a goth to do in the Summer?
-Go swimming! (I love to swim. It's a great work out and it cools you off! Ladies be sure to wear waterproof mascara.)
-Visit a beach (Lounging in a chair in the sand with Bram Stoker and iced tea. Bliss!)
-Go to your local library of book store.
-Window shop local stores
-Get some friends together and grill!
-Have a bonfire at night with friends
-Or you could stay inside! (As in buy some popcorn, candy, and have a movie night with friends. Could be horror themed or Tim Burton themed.)

So do you loathe the Summer? I hope this helps you brainstorm ideas on what to do this Summer! What do you do to beat the heat?

Going out OOTD! (And why I hate my body)

Well I am comfortable in my own skin but the part of my body that I hate is my sinuses! The weather here went from lovely and Springy to cold and damp. This causes my sinuses to go insane and my nose clogs and my throat gets scratchy. These were taken before my sinuses began to hate me. It was very sunny outside and that is why my eyes are barely open. And the temperature dropped to 40F! Very cold for May.
