Goth Challenge! Goth trends I do not like

Hurray! More of the Goth challenge! You can find the Goth Challenge list here. Thank you Dark Stalker girl and Sarry Walrus for inspiring me to do this!

This challenge is number nineteen on the list. Trends I thought I loved, but now I'm not too keen on. I have not been going in order. Sort of been jumping all over the list but ah well!

1. Tutus

Not a fan. I thought I used to like them for three seconds when I was sixteen. But nope. To me it looks...childish in the bad way. Just my opinion. The colored tutus tend to look worse than the plain black ones.

2. Fairy shirts.
I had one at one point in my life. I never wore it. I just think they look...dated. If a kid is wearing them that is okay. But a grown person wearing them? Not for me.

3. White Face Paint
I have pale skin. I do mix a small amount of white makeup to my foundation to match my skin but just putting on Halloween face cream..ugh. Goths come in all shapes and colors. Not all of us are pale! And poorly applied white face cream looks horrid. Just saying.

So what goth "trends" do you dislike? Oh and here is a good picture of me! Finally! I have no shame in promoting myself. Hehe

A guide to thrift store shopping. (And why you should thrift)

I love thrift stores. Not everyone has the patience to sort through bins of dusty clothing. But I do! I love the thrill of finding a vintage band shirt, a Tripp brand item, or the perfect worn in combat boots. Almost eighty percent of my clothing comes from thrift stores. I also love the feel of already worn in clothing. I have converted some of my friends to thrift stores because of the great pieces I have found. But here is my personal guide to thrifting! Enjoy!

:Look in odd places:
I find my vintage band shirts (or sometimes worn only once) in the male section of stores. I find cute vests in the kid's section. I once found an amazing pair of boots hidden under scarves.

:Do not rush yourself:
Take a day where you have free time. You need time to search if you are new to thrifting. I can go through a store and find at least five different things in less than twenty minutes. But that comes from the experience of knowing where to look.

:Wear comfy clothing:
Some thrift stores do not have dressing rooms or the rooms are dusty. Wear something you can easily slip another item over if there is no dressing room. And also wear something you do not mind getting slightly dirty.

:If you like something but not love it..do not get it!:
I have wasted money on items I like and end up never wearing. Can you see yourself wearing this more than once? If you do not like this will a friend love it? Can you wear this with more than one outfit and for different occasions?

:See a big baggy shirt you like? DIY it!:
I get big baggy Halloween shirts and cut them up for summer. Or take a giant stripped shirt and turn it into a scarf. If you have not deconstructed a shirt before there are plenty of tutorials on Youtube showing you how. And there are plenty of no sew designs. Or see a pair of pants you like the look of but not the way the fit is on the legs? Cut them into shorts! Distress them and add patches or studs.

:Do not just get clothing!:
Nothing is off limits. Shoes, jewelry, home decorations, material, vintage patterns for clothing, and even furniture. I found a brand new goat skull at a thrift store for two bucks. This is also a great place to look for odd shaped bottles for decoration or oddity collections.

:Go on the weekends or the first of the month:
Most stores get new things on the weekends or the first of the month. Also look for Halloween things during September. And look for school clothes during August.

Here is a directory of thrift stores in the USA Here.
For those not in the United States..google is your friend!

How strangers react to my clothes, and how I react to their reactions (Goth Challenge)

Well since I live in a small town in the South (Alabama) I do get very rude comments.( For those of you that do not like foul language I give you fair warning. I will use profanity.) I have grown to understand that I live in a place where dressing in the Gothic fashion is not very popular nor seen very much. Also some kids wear all black and pretend to be goth for a few months. But I do not hate those kids. After all they are kids trying to discover their identity in life. We all experiment in life. Most of the negative comments come from very rude and tan girls or very trashy people. Most postive comments come from older ladies, children, or girls who envy my bravery to wear black lipstick in public.
Oh and here is the Goth challenge by Darkstalker girl . Here

:Here are some neagtive reactions and my comments and inner thoughts:

1. "Stupid fucking goth bitch!"
I used to work on campus at my college for testing during the Summer. Occasionaly nursing students would come in and they would be very loud. There are about eight large signs stating that testing is taking place. Well I approach the loud girls (keep in mind I am wearing black dress pants, a bat necklace, and a black blouse.) asking them politely to lower their volume. They react with disgust. The second time I ask them politely is when the comment came from a loud leather handbag pretending to be a female. I told my superior about the comment and campus security ended up escorting them out. All of them recieved F's on their test. I was laughing and smiling the whole time.

2. "I bet you dress that way for attention. Do not worry it is a phase."
Since this comment came from a stranger in a clothing store I ignored her as she blathered on. I have had this argument already with a professor. This is who I am. I have been Goth since I was 16. My own mother who at first protested the way I dress accepted me when I turned 18 because she realized that it was not a phase. I think to myself...why do you dress the way you do? Is it a phase? It angers me...but I do not want to argue with strangers. And their opinion of me is worthless in my eyes.

3. "Goths are fucking weird. Why the hell would you wear all black? Retarded Satanist freaks."

This came from a "friend". Or a person who I thought was a friend. I heard her very loud voice from a hallway. I confronted her. "Weird in your eyes is normal to me. Normal to you is weird to me. We all see each other differently. I wear all black because I love the way it looks. I wear all black because I choose to. I embrace the term freak because I do not want to conform to the mass medias ideals of what is good and proper and normal. I am a Satanist, but not all Goths are. Just because you dress differently does not mean you share a singular religion. I do not diss your religion because that is how you feel and I can never change that. Just do not expect me to help you with your essay tomorrow."

:Here are some positive comments and my reactions:

1. "Thank you. Thank you for being yourself. I love weird and odd people. I love when people are not afraid to be themselves."
This came from a random older woman at a thrift store. I smiled and thanked her. I told her that it means so much to me to hear that. I had been having a bad day. She then dissapeared and I have never seen her again.

2."When I grow up I want to be just like you!"
This came from a 5 year old from a school that I did paid volunteer work at for my college. She drew me bats and proudly told me that they were here favorite animals. I asked her why she wanted to be like me. She said, "Cuz you are beautiful, nice, kind, dress cool, and I want to be like that! Duh!"

I usually get the evil eye as well. I hold my head high because I am not afraid to be me! Have you had similar experiences? How do you react? I try to not show my anger and be the bigger man. (Bigger woman? Whatever!) You can always catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Or like my mother always said, "Kill em eith kindness!"

Makeup tutorial! (sort of) Blue Edition

Forgive my horrid picture quality. I made use of my lousy phone camera. It took me a minute to figure out how and what to do a makeup tutorial on. So I decided blue eyeshadow. Or how to incorporate blueinto your look. Some may be too shy to wear just bright blue eyeshadow and this is a great way to have a pop of color along with basic black eyeshadow. I use the same technique with other colors like purple or green.

1. Use an eyeshadow pencil (or eye liner to cover your entire lid...not the crease!) I am using L.A Colors Jumbo Eye Pencil in Sunglasses

2. Use a plain black eyeshadow and go over the liner. (This will help the shadow stick and prevent fall out.) With the black move to your crease and blend the black into your crease. I am using a black in the Wet N Wild Blue had me at hello pallete.

3. Use the same black eyeshadow to line your eye. Go only half way to avoid a racoon look.

4. Use a shimmery blue and go over the black you put in your crease. This will give the color depth and a smokey feel. The blue I am using is in the Wet N Wild Blue had me at hello pallete.

5. Use a q-tip to clean up smudges and fall out. I use eye shadow remover on the q-tip. I use Mary Kay oil free eye shadow remover.

6. Use your favorite mascera only on your top lashes. Also use your favorite eye liner to only line the bottom half way. The mascera I used is Wet N Wild Mega Protein mascera. The liner I use is Maybelline expert wear liner in very black.

7. I like to draw either one or three dots with liquid eye liner on the side of one eye. I used Color Mates liquid eyeliner in navy blue.

:Tips!:

I always use an eye primer to make my shadow last all day. I put my foundation on first before my eyeshadow. If I make a mistake I usually use makeup remover or use a trasculcent powder and a kabuki brush to wipe away fall out.

So honesty time...was this a decent tutorial? Should I do more?

Medusa's Makeup Review!

I love very bright eyeshadow. I also love cruelty free makeup! I knew about Medusa's Makeup for a while and I finally have some in my large collection of makeup. Medusa's Makeup is an independant brand that specializes in bright eyeshadow, eye glitter, and lip stick. They are also cruelty free and PETA certified which is a big plus. They recycle all paper, plastic, bottles, and cans at their facility. They also reuse the packaging materials and use recycled envelopes in their online orders. The website is easy to navigate and their pressed eyeshadow is only eight bucks. (Which is way cheaper than Urban Decay eyeshadow.) I sent them an email asking if I could do a review on my blog of their makeup. I was allowed to choose one product and just pay shipping. (I ended up purchasing another eyeshadow.) I chose two pressed eyeshadows in the colors Electro Red and Electro Orange. Here is what I got in the mail. It took some will power not to rip open everything.

Everything was packaged so neatly! I recieved a sticker, a catalogue, and a free lip gloss in the color Lover Boy.

The Electro Red is a very bright cherry red with silver glitter. The color definately matches what is on the website. The Electro Orange is lighter than in the picture but when swatched on my skin over primer it does show up brighter. (Electro Orange also has silver glitter in it.) The free lip gloss I recieved (In the color Lover Boy) smells like bubble gum but sort of tastes like plastic. At least I like to wear lip gloss instead of eat it. The color is a very bright pink and is a little bit brighter than what is shown on the website. On my lips it is not as bright but it gives my lips a nice pop of color. Sort of like a lip tint instead of a gloss. Overall I love everything!  ( Remember that I bought this with my own money and was not paid.)

Medusa's Makeup official website!

I am definately going to buy more in the near future. So do you buy cruelty free makeup or beauty products? *And sorry males that this does not interest you. Hush just let me be a girl!*
