The Lone Goth

So I live in a small town in the grand ole south. Alabama to be exact and more known for rednecks and heavy accents. Well I just happen to be literally the only goth girl in my town. Have I seen any at my college? Nope. Have I seen any goths at local shows? Nope. I would even love to see another goth at a grocery store. But nope. How do I keep my sanity?! Well the truth is I do get lonely. I just want to have a nice picnic in a graveyard with a friend or a nice stroll in a park with a fellow goth. I reach out to the internet in order to find goth friends. (Wow I have used the word "goth" far too much already) I have succeeded in making friends and I text some of them and just chat online. The rest of my real life friends are either "normals" or metal heads. Normals referring to those who belong to no subculture. So for those who either live in a small town like I do or just have no luck in finding goth friends I give you this advice: Do not feel lonely. You can be friends with people who dress differently. You can be friends with anybody. Do not filter friends based on what they wear. Try to make friends online. I know this is not the same but you never know who lives close to you.

I have made many friends who share the same interests as me but are not in any way gothic. So do you have very few, a lot or no fellow goth friends? Do you have more internet friends than real life friends?

Sorry for the poor lighting!

  1. In my experience - even though I grew up around Goths - when you make friends with people that have the same influences as you, your 'Gothiness' tends to rub off on them (because, well, same interests!) and they might end up being influenced into the subculture by you. :3

    But yeah, I agree completely!

    1. I have gotten non-goths into certain types of music and movies from my Gothiness rubbing off them. It also teaches the mass population that not all Goths are anti-social and hang out only with Goths.
